about

Traditionally, Barcelona has been presenting great jazz and swing Big Bands for many years. Since the beginning of 70's there have been many musicians and music arrangers who were seduced by the characteristic power and versatile style of this band formation. But, so far, none of them were involved deeply in the blues or rhythm and blues music. The Barcelona Big Blues Band, lead by double bass player Ivan Kovacevic, combines a group of great musicians who create an energetic sound that is capable of being wild, raw and sophisticated at the same time. In his arrangements, Kovacevic applies his whole experience and judgement that he acquired playing in small combo bands and also being a great fan of early R&B music. The final result is a driving, powerhouse sound, following the line of bands like T-Bone Walker or Johnny Otis.
Mery Cuesta

Pere Miró is a young baritone saxophone player most active in the jazz, R&B and jamaican Barcelona scene. He plays regularly with his projects Camarades, Insistim and Scaramanga and as a member of the Gramophone Allstars Big Band and the great honker Dani Nel·lo while blowing his horn in a lot of other projects that need low notes. Beside his role as a blower, he also composes and writes music arrangements, hability he used to share the creation of repertoire with the Barcelona Big Blues Band director, Ivan Kovacevic. Miró's 42th record with a baritone saxophone as a common point is influenced by some of the greatests baritone players as Harry Carney, Jimmy Giuffre, Serge Chaloff, Gerry Mulligan or Leo Parker. Two original compositions written for the occasion complete a perfect mix of B4’s power and Miró’s technique, creating an identity: A sophisticated an wild sound!
